CHAMINADE AT SANTA CRUZ PARTICIPATES IN LOCAL CHARITY EVENTS

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- Chaminade at Santa Cruz is helping people in need in Santa Cruz County by supporting local charities including Women's Crisis Support, the United Way of Santa Cruz and the Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk organization by providing services and monetary contributions.

Women's Crisis Support/Defensa de Mujeres Dinner and Auction on May 10, 2002 at 6 p.m. For the past 4 years, Chaminade at Santa Cruz has partnered with Women's Crisis Support/Defensa de Mujeres, a non-profit agency in its 24th year that provides temporary shelter, counseling and legal assistance for abused women and children. This year Chaminade will donate coordination services, ballroom space and food at-cost for the event, which includes a four-course dinner in Chaminade's Santa Cruz Ballroom an auction with items including dining, weekend getaway packages at the Resort at Squaw Creek located in Squaw Valley, Calif., golf excursions and unique fine art. Last year the event raised more than $41,000 with all proceeds benefiting the organization. Tickets are $100 per person and can be purchased by calling the Women's Crisis Support/Defensa de Mujeres at 831-477-4244. Additional donations can be made and sponsorship opportunities are available.

United Way 2002 Corporate Golf Challenge on May 30, 2002 at 10 a.m. Chaminade is a major sponsor of the United Way Corporate Golf Challenge. The format for the event is a four-person scramble held at Pasatiempo Golf Course, with proceeds benefiting the local United Way efforts. Last year the Golf Challenge raised $11,000. Entry fees are $225 per person or $780 per team and include green fees, a sleeve of golf balls, apparel (shirt or sweatshirt), lunch, prizes and an evening barbeque. All prizes for the event are donated through local sponsors. Participants can register by calling the United Way at 831-479-5477.

Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk For seven months from April to October, participants from across the nation will walk 60 miles over a three-day period raising money for breast cancer research. The event begins in San Diego, Calif., and concludes in New York. Local walkers can participate in the event when it comes to San Francisco from July 12 to 14, 2002. Chaminade donated the meeting facilities necessary to help coordinate the nation-wide event. To register for the walk or for additional information call 800-825-1000.
