CHAMINADE AT SANTA CRUZ OFFERS NEW CULINARY TEAM BUILDING EXPERIENCE
WITH THEIR CHILI COOK-OFF
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- Chaminade at Santa Cruz, managed by Benchmark Hospitality,
invites meeting and conference guests to become chili chefs in a festive
atmosphere, complete with cowboy hats, color coordinated bandanas and chili
pepper lights, while building communication and leadership skills.
During the Chili Cook-Off, participants are divided into teams ranging from
five to eight people where they compete to develop the best chili recipe,
team name and "chili chant" for a chance to the win a grand prize. The teams
have 45-minutes to complete the challenges and are judged based on the creativity
and quality of their final product.
The one-hour event is $45 per person and includes: individual cooking stations
with hot plates, cooking pots and utensils; aprons to be decorated; more
than 50 chili ingredients from Tequila to dried ancho chilies. Chaminade's
Executive Chef, Beverlie Terra along with other staff, will oversee the
event and act as judges for the chili cook-off ranking participants on team
name, taste of chili, chili chant and presentation. The event also consists
of a de-briefing session where participants discuss the team building skills
they used.
"Chaminade at is offering the Chili Cook-Off specifically for our meeting
and conference guests," said Tom O'Shea, general manager of Chaminade. "We
realize our guests prefer creative team building leadership exercises that
they can learn from versus listening to a lecture."
Chaminade at Santa Cruz offers comprehensive teambuilding programs through
its conference center. In addition to the Chili Cook-Off, other workshops
include: a culinary competition where Santa Cruz's masterful chefs show
guests how to create a mouth-watering meal by working together as a team;
mini Olympics where participants can select from various events, including
volleyball, blindfolded soccer, the trail of acronyms, and scavenger hunts;
and the Catalyst Challenge course where participants develop their individual
and team leadership skills by mastering and maneuvering the course's four
elements including a balance pole, Giant's ladder, climbing wall and a zipline.
